Truro Vineyards NewsPilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum Announces a Call to Artists Artists invited to design the commemorative wine label for 2010 Rededication Celebration of the Pilgrim Monument Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum (PMPM) will conduct a search to find the best design for a commemorative wine label celebrating the 100th anniversary of the completion and dedication of the Pilgrim Monument. The winning design will be featured on limited special releases by Truro Vineyards in honor of the historic event, which will be celebrated on August 5, 2010. Along with a cash award of $1,000, the winning artwork will become part of the PMPM collection, used on the wine labels, for national marketing and distribution as well as other prints, cards and other items for sale in the museum store. The winning artist will also receive recognition and exposure on the label and materials. “We are extremely excited about this competition,” said Jim Bakker, the executive director of PMPM. “This celebrates not only the rich history of Pilgrim Monument, but honors the long tradition of art in the Provincetown community. I am confident we will receive many great entries, the hardest part will be deciding which is right for us and for this special celebration!” Joining Bakker on the judges’ panel will be experts in the design field including Elizabeth Ives Hunter, Executive Director of the Cape Cod Museum of Art, Christine McCarthy, Executive Director of the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, Margaret Murphy, Executive Director of the Fine Arts Work Center, and William Stover, Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and Dave Roberts, General Manager of Truro Vineyards and PMPM Board Member. “Truro Vineyards is proud to partner with the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum as they celebrate such an important event in American and local history,” said Roberts. “We are looking forward to seeing all of the fine artwork that will be submitted and choosing the best pairing for the PMPM commemorative wines!” The deadline for all submissions will be September 30, 2009 and the winner will be announced at the Annual Lighting of the Pilgrim Monument on November 26, 2009. The wines will be released in May 2010 at Truro Vineyards. Submissions by email only will be accepted until September 30, 2009. Artwork should not exceed 14” x 14” keeping in mind that the label on the bottle will be no larger than 3” wide x 5” high or smaller than 3” x’3”. Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum is a non-profit educational, tax-exempt 501(3)(c) organization. Its mission is to commemorate the history of the Mayflower Pilgrims, culminating in their arrival and stay in Provincetown Harbor and the signing of the Mayflower Compact. In addition, the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum collects, preserves, interprets, researches, exhibits, and publishes archival historical materials and exhibit materials depicting important events of Provincetown history.
